SOCIAL PROJECTS
We support Ukraine
While looking for a way we can support the people of Ukraine, we came across Dmitry. We have been working closely with his factory in Ukraine since September 2022.
We donate 5% of the proceeds.
In order to not only help individual people, but also a larger group, we have decided to donate 5% of the proceeds to a local organization. The aid organization “Rescue Now” was recommended to us by Dmitry because, among other things, his cousin works here. “Rescue Now” helps with evacuation, buys food & medicine and takes care of people in need.
Present Situation
The war in Ukraine continues unabated. The extent of the destruction and the humanitarian situation in the country are catastrophic. People are desperate, millions have fled. Around 6,3 million Ukrainians are refugees in their own country. About half of the refugees are children. Shelling and bombing continue unabated. Many children and adults also suffer from the psychological consequences of violence, flight and fear of the future and need help in acute emergencies - but also in the long term.
A PIECE OF NORMALITY
Many companies have withdrawn their orders due to the uncertain economic situation in the country. But we think that every support counts right now and have actively decided to partner with Dmitry and Ukraine.
Interview
Dmitry, can you give us an insight into the current circumstances in your factory?
“Our factory is located in the town of Bohodudiv, near the Russian border. In the first months of the Russian invasion, the area around Bohoduhiv was also attacked, forcing many people to leave their homes or join the army. The Russians have now withdrawn from this area and we feel safe. This allows us to resume our work. This is particularly important for my team because we are trying to bring a new “everyday life” into this new situation for ourselves.
We are often affected by power outages as there is a power shortage in our area. We have now installed a generator. We heat with wood or coal, so we don’t have to rely on gas or central heating.”
How big is your factory and what products do you manufacture?
“My factory currently consists of 39 employees and we produce handmade leather products. We only use high-quality, LWG-certified genuine leather which originates in Ukraine. This means we also support our local partners. The Leather Working Group certification means quality that is free of harmful substances and good animal husbandry. We produce all products to order and thus avoid overproduction.”
How can NORDLICHT best support you and your team?
Our collaboration means a lot to me and my team. By working together, we can pay our team salaries and give them perspective during these difficult times. Thanks to the donation of 5% of the sales proceeds for each of our products to the aid organization, help is also organized across the board.
